How Do Tankless Water Heaters Work?

Tankless water heaters, also known as on-demand water heaters, work by heating water directly as it flows through the unit rather than storing it in a tank. When water enters the unit, the system's sensors determine the required temperature, and the heat exchanger heats the water to the desired temperature. Once the water reaches the set temperature, it flows through the unit and out to the faucet, shower, or other fixture. Tankless water heaters use either electric or gas heating elements to heat the water. Gas heating elements are more commonly used and can run on either natural gas or propane.

Compared to traditional tank-based systems, tankless water heaters have several benefits. One significant advantage is that they provide hot water on demand, so you never have to worry about running out of hot water. They are also highly energy-efficient, resulting in cost savings over the long term.

Another advantage of tankless water heaters is their long lifespan. With regular maintenance, a typical tankless water heater can last for up to 20 years, almost double the lifespan of a traditional water heater.
